Daily Deviation

Given 2014-09-04
Although a photograph is a mere representation of a person, when a bold gesture is applied to it, such as in Murdered by albertopoloianez, the result is jarring and momentous. ( Suggested by ejrotsih and Featured by justanothersomeone )

I think it's like those murder mysteries where a picture like this is found in a suspect's home, and we realize how much the suspect hates the victim (maybe once upon a time he/she loved the person, but it's so easy for love to turn to hate when things go wrong). Enough to butcher the face. Possibly with enough hatred to murder the person in the picture.

It's a cool picture! I don't see why people don't like it, but hey, to each his own. There are strange things on the DD page every noew and then.

For anyone struggling to see what's the point of this:
"He used a knife to mark on a photo "check" meaning he finished with her. Just like when you have a list to do, when you finish with one thing, you mark "check" on the list. Thar's why it called "Murdered""

I don't see this as DD worthy primarily because it looks like it was pinned on a criminal's wall in Law & Order. I mean really, it doesn't take a huge artistic capacity to watch an episode of Law & Order and decide "Hey, I'm going to tear at a picture and post it on Deviant."

That aside, I do see it as DD worthy because it does bring into mind the psychological state that brought someone to do this. Much like an episode of Law & Order.

FAQ #873: What do I do when I disapprove of a Daily Deviation feature?

There is no such thing as DD worthy.

That's basically what they said but they didn't spell it out in words.

I rather not argue with you though because you love being hostile.

It's not my job but I think it's super rude when people feel the need to post a public opinion about such things are somebody's artwork. :U

They are being rude to an artist that didn't ask for the award. They should be being rude to the people that selected it, not the person who made it. :U

Actually there is.  Everyday when a picture gets posted as DD then it is dubbed DD worthy by the person who suggested it and by the person who made it a DD.

I don't think it takes a genius to differentiate between Computertroller's opinion and the opinions of the two people that put a defaced image up as a daily deviation.

If it needs to be spelled out for you:

Computertroller: Kinda creative, but not DD worthy.

Ejrotsih and Justanothersomeone: Although a photograph is a mere representation of a person, when a bold gesture is applied to it, such as in Murdered by albertopoloianez, the result is jarring and momentous.

I'm not confused and I certainly don't need your help.

The only thing I fail to understand is, why comment on the artwork? Of course it's your opinion but the receiver didn't ask for the DD. If you feel so strongly about it being so underserving you need to talk to the CV that gave the DD. Just because you don't understand the concept of the photograph doesn't make it unworthy of a DD. A DD is simply a feature, nothing more, nothing less. Nobody is undeserving of a feature.

Relish in the controversy this DD created - for the impact of it is part of the message of this.

There are multiple interperative messages behind the picture, not the time put into it or how uncomfortable the subject makes you feel. A few ideas that come to mind are:
Unrequited love or a hatred of women
An absent mother
A serial killer using a knife in his/her leisure time to mark where they would stab a victim - an insight into the deprevity of these folk

The photograph draws you in to the center of the eye. This is clearly a person with a past - and everything about it is open to interpretation. But crossing something off that you don't understand as 'fake art' or undeserving is very ignorant.

I'm reminded of all the Shakespeare plays our English teachers deciphered and asked us to do the same with.
"What was he thinking?" "Why is <insert character> portrayed this way?" "Who is this aimed towards?"
It could just be that Shakespeare just felt like writing what he wrote without giving it a second thought. BUT NO! WE MUST GET TO THE BOTTOM OF HIS THOUGHT PROCESS! Even if that means making it up as we go along.

I'll leave you to figure out who's who in this situation.

This is an example of fake art. A crafty title and a sob story does not make a piece of art, but this poorly crafted piece is worthless without an explanation.

Sure, whatever you want to believe.

However, there are more than one reasons as to why both of you are wrong.  One is the ideology of the avante garde artist, Marcel Duchamp - that anything created with an idea and meaning behind it, or even the streamlined aesthetics of mundane daily objects - are considered art.  Humans are a unique species that can apply meaning to cleverly crafted objects.  This is, essentially art.  Even a stick figure is art.  Not having the ability to understand something doesn't automatically discredit this.

Another reason are the multiple interperative messages behind the picture, not the time put into it or how uncomfortable the subject makes you feel.

But crossing something off that you don't understand as 'fake art' is very ignorant.  That isn't interpretative - that is fact - that a person is unable to look beyong personal tastes into the deeper meaning of something.
